Compressor room and its revitalization
Today, the area that once served an industrial function, will gain new life and will be restored to the city and its residents. Nowy Wełnowiec will be built in place of the former steelworks, which will write another chapter in the history of the district. Already at the first stage of the project, the last remaining fragment of the steelworks building will be revitalized - the compressor room, which after renovation will welcome people using the space of Nowy Wełnowiec. This is where the old meets the new. The compressor room building will become one of the key elements of Nowy Wełnowiec - as the last witness to the history of the steelworks, it will receive a new life.
The compressor station, built around 1905, initially served as an industrial base, and over the years it underwent numerous modifications, losing its original architectural details and parts of the original structures. As part of the revitalization, it is planned to restore the building's original appearance. The brick elevations with arches and walls with a characteristic attic line will be cleaned and supplemented. It is also planned to restore the original window openings, thanks to which the building will regain its former industrial character.
After the works are completed, the compressor station will become an important point of Nowy Wełnowiec – there will be a model of the investment, an information point, and a space for meetings for residents. Thanks to this, the old compressor station will become a symbolic place where the history of Wełnowiec meets its modern and revitalized character, being a symbol of the harmonious connection of the past with the future.
